Rite of Conquest

Advanced Rite of Renown

Challenge:

Cost: A number of Gnosis equal to the recipient's rank. Recipient gives all current Gnosis. Ritemaster must be a Theurge that has received this rite himself.

Description: More celebratory than it might seem from the name, the Rite of Conquest is performed to welcome back a Bringer of Light who has successfully endured an extended stay in the presence of the Wyrm (and emerged unscathed, both physically and spiritually). It is similar in many respects to a Rite of Cleansing, but it is far more powerful. Recipients of this rite are true paragons among the Garou, and even Garou of other tribes bow down before them in respect, as they have accomplished things few others would even dare to attempt. This rite may only be performed by one who has himself received the rite, and it is only performed under a sky filled with storm clouds, under Grandfather Thunder's watchful gaze.

Effect: The character must first endure six months of close contact with the Wyrm, interacting with fomori, Banes and Black Spirals and other Wyrm-corrupted shifters, and resisting taint and temptation. If he is still strong at the end of six months, he may receive this ritual. It is performed under a stormy sky, and the cost paid and challenge made. With success, the recipient receives the power of Gaia into himself and receives one of several possible benefits at Storyteller's approval. Such benefits may include high resistance to Wyrm influences, immunity to bane possession, immunity to Harano, immunity to gaining derangements beyond any currently held etc.

Detailed Reasoning
--------------------------

Hello Council! The Shadow Lord Rite of Conquest is an Advanced Bringer of the Light only Rite that has, at the request of many Changing Breed and Vampire STs alike, needed to come under CBC control for some time.

The rite has the ability, at ST discretion, to allow things like immunity to gaining a derangement, immunity to triatic taint, immunity to bane possession, immunity to viniculum/blood bonds, and immunity to harano.

By canon, it is only supposed to be used once a Bringer of the Light and only a Bringer of the Light returns from a mission because it is a deep dark Shadow Lord secret that this rite exists and they'd like to keep it that way.

There are several instances of this rite being used multiple times for multiple effects. This is completely unbalancing and inappropriate for genre.

Please Note: there is also a partial restructure taking place with the bylaws so that it's not a wall of unreadable text.

Grandfathering
--------------------------
Previous knowledge of the Rite:
Allowed
for Shadow Lord PCs and NPCs

Previous knowledge of the Rite:
Disallowed
for non Shadow Lord PCs and NPCs.

Previous usage of the Rite on PCs / NPCs:
Disallowed.
All usages of the rite must be re-approved to ensure they line up with the new standards for what effects can be granted from the Rite.

To explain this, before someone gets mad at me for Partial Grandfathering again, I am documenting visibly on council that I will be grandfathering specific aspects of this as seen above. You will still need to do the paperwork, but if you find I have not done the thing as seen above, you will be able to call me out on council over it.

Again. We are regulating this because it is a tribal secret that should not be up for grabs to the general population.

The cross genre elements this rite creates must also be controlled to ensure balance across the board.
